Today I went to a rally at the Thompson Center Plaza in support of the passage of a vital transit bill- Senate Bill 572- which will provide immediate and long-term funding for transit and para-transit in northeastern Illinois. I was very proud of the members of Metro Seniors in Action and our coalition of disability rights groups that have been working with us on transit issues for several years now. Together, we had a significant presence and made our voices heard.

I think this is the reason why Metro Seniors in Action keeps on fighting the good fight. It takes time and energy to better people’s lives, but due to our investment, bills are passed that should be passed, people are heard that have never been heard, and the safety of seniors and people with disabilities is ensured. That is why I enjoy being a member of an organization such as Metro Seniors in Action.

Metro Seniors in Action is a multi-issue organization. We see that proper curb cuts are installed so that seniors and people with disabilities can maintain their independence. We promote safe, affordable, accessible, and reliable mass transit and para-transit for all. We help remove seniors from nursing homes when they no longer belong there. We continuously advocate health care for all- “Everybody in, Nobody out!” We speak out against elder abuse and protect seniors from fraud and dishonest service providers.

Many of our members have been victims of car accidents and therefore we have championed the cause of increasing pedestrian safety throughout the city. The campaigns that we organize are specifically targeted to benefit the impoverished, the most powerless, and those who need our help the most. We help seniors find their voice and we are always ready to join with them in doing what is right.

Metro Seniors in Action has over 30 years of experience empowering seniors to fight for their rights. Come join us fight the good fight!
